Tuntud tuuninguettevõte Alpina tegi teatavaks omapoolse modifikatsiooni valmimise BMW 5. seeria mudelist. Auto, mis sai nimeks Alpina B5, võib täiel määral konkureerida tehase poolt valmistatud BMW M5 supersedaaniga. Alpina B5 on varustatud mehaanilise ülelaadija paigalduse abil 500 hobujõuni forsseeritud 4,4-liitrise V8 mootoriga. Nullist saja kilomeetrini tunnis kiirendab valminud mudel 4,9 sekundiga, mida on M5-st vaid 0,2 sekundit vähem. Maksimaalne kiirus on modifitseeritud mudelil 300 km/h (14 km/h väiksem kui M5). Teiste eripärade hulgast võib mainida aerodünaamilist kitti, stiilseid 19-tolliseid velgi, samuti vedrustuse ja pidurisüsteemi muudetud seadeid. Alpina B5 ei näe tervikuna välja kahvatum kui M5, makstes seejuures kõigest 89 900.- (sedaankerega) kuni 92 900.- (universaalkerega) eurot.
